Williamson County Appliance Repair Call (737) 387-6551

Appliance Repair questions from Williamson County homeowners

Why does an ice maker only last a few years in Round Rock?

The water. Round Rock's own report calls it very hard, roughly 14.5 grains, and the samples through the year run from 100 to 358 ppm as the lake and Edwards Aquifer shares shift. Every part that touches water, the fill valve, the inlet screen, the filter and the ice mold, scales up ahead of the manufacturer's schedule. The fix is usually a valve or a mold, not a new refrigerator, and the technician will say if a filter change and a descale gets you another season first.

Our Sun City house still has the original appliances. Repair or replace?

Sun City's first phases date to the mid 1990s, so an original refrigerator, range or dishwasher there is near thirty years old. The rule we use: under ten years old and a repair under half the price of a comparable new unit, repair. A sealed-system failure on a refrigerator that age, or a dead main board on a budget machine, replace. The technician gives you that answer on the first visit and charges only the service call if replacing is the call.

How does the technician get through the gate at Cimarron Hills or into Sun City?

Gated and guard-gated communities, HOA subdivisions, Sun City and apartment communities are routine for us: we carry insurance certificates for the gate, check in with the guard at Cimarron Hills, work the keypad gates at Grand Mesa and Gabriels Overlook, schedule through property managers where that is how the home runs, and text an arrival window so nobody waits by the door. In Sun City, where more than 8,000 homes house 15,000-plus residents aged 55 and up, we book a firm window and call ahead. In a rental the landlord usually books the repair, so have the property manager call us.

What does appliance repair cost in Williamson County?

The service call is $89 to $119, waived when you approve the repair. Most jobs land between $175 and $450 parts and labor: refrigerators $200 to $550, washers $175 to $400, dryers $150 to $350, dishwashers $175 to $400, ovens and ranges $175 to $450, ice makers $175 to $400. The price is flat, set after the diagnosis, and the work does not start until you have agreed to it.

It is 100 degrees and the refrigerator is warm. How soon can you get here?

A refrigerator that quits in a Round Rock summer, with Austin's Camp Mabry running weeks of 100-degree days most summers and normal August highs near 98, is an emergency, and a washer or oven down for a week is not much better. Call before noon and a refrigerator or freezer in Round Rock is on the schedule the same day; Georgetown, Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville are the same drive. Washers, dryers, dishwashers and ovens are usually next day. Move what you can to a cooler, keep the door shut, and text the model number so the likely part rides out on the first trip.

We closed on a new house in Leander last year and the dishwasher quit. Who fixes it?

Probably the manufacturer, through its authorized servicer, and that is the first thing to settle. Leander, Hutto, Liberty Hill and Jarrell are mostly subdivisions built since 2010, and the builder's appliance package in a house that new is often still under the factory warranty. Send us the model and the closing date and we will tell you if it is likely still covered before you pay for a service call you may not owe.

My town is not Round Rock. Is the water the same?

Tap water across Williamson County is mostly treated lake water, and it runs hard: Round Rock and Georgetown draw on Lake Georgetown and Edwards Aquifer wells, with Round Rock reporting 249 mg/L and calling it very hard; Cedar Park, Leander and Round Rock share Lake Travis water from the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority plant; Taylor and Hutto get Lake Granger water through the Brazos River Authority; and Pflugerville pumps Colorado River water into Lake Pflugerville. Either way the parts that touch water, inlet valves, screens, filters and ice maker molds, wear out ahead of schedule. Liberty Hill runs on four Trinity Aquifer wells plus Lake Travis water treated by Leander, and Pflugerville's supply works out noticeably softer than Round Rock's, so the technician asks which utility bills the house before blaming a pump or a board.

A spring storm took out the oven's control board. Does anything cover that?

Texas logged more than 40 million lightning events in 2024, more than the next three states combined by Vaisala's count, and the Austin weather office's radar area averages 32 severe weather reports in March, 44 in April and 74 in May. A large share of the control board failures we see follow a spring storm or a power flicker, and a whole-house surge protector at the panel is cheaper than the second board. Some homeowners policies pay for surge damage, and the technician writes up the failure so you have it for the claim.

Do you work on the Sub-Zero and Wolf built-ins in Cedar Park and Travisso?

Williamson County splits two ways: the production subdivisions in Hutto, Jarrell, Liberty Hill and east Leander came with the builder's standard appliance package, while the Hill Country side of the county, Cimarron Hills in Georgetown, Grand Mesa and Travisso in Leander, and the Cedar Park neighborhoods where the median owner-occupied home is worth about $514,000, is where the Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador and Miele appliances built into cabinetry turn up, and a generalist should not be pulling those apart. The luxury service call is $149 to $199, waived with the repair, and the technician sent has worked on that brand before. Panel-ready and built-in parts are ordered the same day and installed on a scheduled return.

Will the part be on the truck?

For the common failures on the major brands, yes: fill and inlet valves, igniters, bake elements, thermal fuses, drain pumps, belts, drum rollers, start relays and the control boards that fail most. The garage refrigerator in August and the scaled ice maker are first-visit repairs most of the time. Brand-specific and luxury parts are ordered the same day with the return visit booked before the technician leaves.

I rent in Round Rock. Who books the repair?

Roughly 45 percent of Round Rock homes are rented, so this comes up daily. The landlord or property manager usually books and pays, and a manager with several units can send one list and get one arrival window per address. If you are the tenant, forward the model number to the manager and have them call us.

Are you licensed and insured?

Texas has no state license for appliance repair, and the TDLR air conditioning rules specifically exempt residential refrigerators, freezers and ice machines, but any technician opening a sealed refrigerant system must hold EPA Section 608 certification. Texas plumbing law lets an appliance dealer connect a gas range or dryer to an existing outlet with a code-approved connector without a plumbing license, while new or altered gas piping is licensed plumbing, so a licensed plumber handles it. We carry general liability insurance, with certificates for gated communities and HOAs on request.

What is the warranty on the repair?

Parts and labor, with the period printed on the invoice because it depends on the part. If the same part fails inside that window, the return visit is free.
